Orientation FAQS

Is Orientation mandatory?

Orientation is the key to a successful transition to the University. Students are required to complete the orientation sessions assigned to their population/degree level. 

When will I receive the Orientation schedule?

Orientation schedules are posted on the website. A detailed schedule will be available during mid-summer after all programming has been finalized. Students should not make any plans during Orientation besides attending Orientation activities.

What do I do if I arrive later than my scheduled check-in?

It is very important that you arrive on campus during your scheduled check-in date but we do understand that things come up. If you are unable to make it for your scheduled check-in date, once you get to campus please come the Security Welcome Center located at 3126 Panther Place Melbourne, FL 32901 during the hours of 8am-5pm, Monday - Friday of fall and spring orientation programs. If you arrive on or after the first day of classes, please instead go to the Office of Orientation located in the Denius Student Center, 2nd Floor.

I'm a local student and I'm not living on campus, when do I need to arrive for Orientation?

All incoming students are required to attend University Orientation. Refer to the Orientation Schedule for arrival times. All sessions ensure a successful transition into college and are important to your success at college.

Am I able to move in early?

No, we are unable to provide housing for you if you arrive early. But, please see the "Arriving @ Florida Tech" link on our website for a list of hotels if you need a place to stay for a night or two.

When will I receive my housing information?

You will receive your housing information via email in July prior to your arrival at Florida Tech, if you have not received your housing assignments please contact Housing at 321-674-8076. 

When do meal plans for new student begin?

Meal plans will begin for students from the start of orientation.

Will there be a bank representative present during Orientation?

We will have a representative from our Bank partner present during Orientation. The representative will also return to campus and be present in the Student Union Building during the first week of classes.

Is there an ATM on campus?

Yes, we have two ATMs on campus with our banking partners. One ATM is located outside of the Denius Student Center by the elevator. The second ATM is Chase Bank and has been installed at Panther Dining Hall lobby. 

Can I use my Barnes and Noble Gift Card at the campus bookstore?

Yes, the campus bookstore is a Barnes and Noble so you may use your Barnes and Noble card when purchasing your books for classes.

Is it a good idea to bring my bike?

Yes, many of the students on campus have bikes. There are many bike racks around campus to park your bike. Our Security Department recommends a "U-Lock" for your bike and for you to register your bike through our security office.

When will I get a list of books so I can buy books for my classes?

When you receive your class schedule during Orientation week, you will know what books to buy. The campus bookstore sells both used and new books for you to buy. The bookstore will also have an information session during the orientation week.

Can I ship some of my items to the school before I arrive?

Yes, you may send your packages early. We will hold them in shipping and receiving until you arrive. Please address them in the following:

Please write underneath the shipping label (Fall 202X NEW INCOMING STUDENT). Shipping and Receiving is located in Bldg. 540 east side at the south end of campus. You can pick up your shipments there during orientation week.

Are freshmen allowed to have cars on campus?

Yes, freshmen are allowed to have cars on campus. Parking permits can be purchased during Orientation and/or prior through an email link.

What size are the beds in the residence halls?

All of the beds in the residence halls are extra long twin. There is also up to 2 feet of storage underneath the beds (this is when the bed is put on the highest level). Mary Star of the Seas has full size beds.

Technology Support operates six instructional computing labs and oversees technology for 100+ classrooms and learning spaces.  The Applied Computing Center (ACC) is also managed and maintained by Technology Support.  This full-service computing facility provides access to an array of productivity software and services, as well as specialized software needed by each academic college or department.  The ACC is an open lab located within the Evans Library.

The University offers faxing services to the students at the Student Activities Department (second floor of the Student Union Building) during normal business hours.  Additionally, faxing services offered at the Copy Center.

Student Employees

Students have several opportunities to work on-campus with many departments, whether for academic or employment experience.

On-campus job positions will be posted in Workday.  Federal Work Study positions are listed as 'FWS Eligible' or 'FWS Only'. College Role positions are listed without this type of indicator.

Once a student secures an on-campus position, be sure to review the Workday Student Employee Resources page for information about updating your profile, accessing training resources, and submitting hours worked via timesheets.
